Most standard cases are fine. Thin silicone, plastic and leather cases pass power through without trouble. Very thick cases, battery cases and anything with a metal plate can block it - take the case off if yours is unusually thick.
Use a reasonable modern USB-C adapter rather than an old low-power one. It is powering three charging spots from a single plug, so an underpowered adapter will slow everything down.
The base is weighted to hold the phone at its angle, so a tap or a swipe is fine. It is a stand rather than a mount though, so it is not built to be poked hard or used one-handed at arm's length.
The watch spot suits watches that charge from a standard puck of their own type. Check what your watch needs before ordering, since watch charging is far less standardised than phone charging.
